Salvation Through Faith in Jesus Christ – Children’s Search the Scripture Lesson 24

Last week, in Children’s Lesson 23: Sinfulness of All Boys and Girls, we learnt that everyone has sinned. Today we learn the good news: God has made a way for every boy and girl to be saved through faith in Jesus Christ.

1. THE NEED FOR SALVATION THROUGH CHRIST

Wycliffe Bible dictionary describes salvation in various ways. (i) It is the total work of God in bringing men from the state of sin to the state of glory through Jesus Christ. In the former state, men are spiritually dead and subject to divine wrath while in the latter, they are under God’s grace and experiencing eternal life. (ii) Salvation brings the righteousness of God to man when he meets the condition of faith in Christ. It is based on the death of Christ for the remission of sins in accordance with the just requirements of a holy God.

In the Old Testament law, the children of Israel were required to make sacrifices for the cleansing of their sins. The people brought their animals to the priest. The priest then sacrificed the animals and used the blood to make atonement for sin. After the sacrifice, the people were declared sinless. But after a while, they still continued in their bad ways. To receive cleansing therefore, they had to continually make the sacrifices. God saw that these sacrifices were not enough to take away sin permanently. Therefore, He made provision for a better sacrifice that will cleanse us from sin once.

This He did by sending His only begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Through faith in His shed blood, sinners can be saved and set free from sin. Are you saved?

Sin came into the world because of Adam’s disobedience to God. We all inherited Adam’s sin. God in His love, does not want us to perish. He, therefore, sent His only begotten Son Jesus, as a substitute to die for the sin of the whole world (John 3:16-18). Jesus shed His blood and laid down His life for us because He loves us. Faith in the cleansing power in the blood of Jesus saves us from sin. Every sinner who refuses to accept Jesus Christ is condemned to suffer forever in hell fire (Psalm 9:17; John 3:18). To avoid this terrible consequence, all sinners must repent of their sins, forsake them and turn to Jesus for salvation.

2. NEW LIFE THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST

Romans 4:1-10; Matthew 11:28; Acts 2:37,38; 4:12

Faith is the foundation of our Christian walk with God. We receive salvation by faith. Without faith, we cannot please God. Abraham believed God’s promise that he would have a child even when he was too old to have one. This faith was counted to him as righteousness. Abraham’s faith in God led to his obedience when God asked him to sacrifice Isaac. Obedience to God’s command is an evidence of your faith.

Jesus calls every sinful boy and girl to come to Him (Matthew 11:28). By faith you answer the call:

After taking these steps, you now become a child of God and a friend of Jesus (John 1:12). You must continue to follow Jesus daily by reading and obeying His word.

3. NOTEWORTHY BLESSINGS THROUGH SALVATION

The following are some of the benefits that will be yours when you are saved through faith in Christ:

1. Peace with God (Romans 5:1).
2. Joy and hope of eternal life (Romans 5:2).
3. Love of God in the heart (Romans 5:5).
4. Protection and power over Satan through Jesus’ blood (Revelation 12:11).
5. Eternal life with Jesus in heaven (John 14:1-3; 1 John 5:13).
