Benefits of Justification – Children’s Search the Scripture Lesson 25
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Romans 5:1 (Memory Verse)
Justification is an act of God whereby He declares a sinner righteous because of that sinner’s faith in Christ. God is the righteous Judge who has the power to free a sinner who believes in Christ. A sinful child who accepts Christ as his personal Saviour and Lord is declared righteous because in Christ, he has come into a righteous relationship with God. Last week we studied Children’s Lesson 24: Salvation Through Faith in Jesus Christ.
Important Points About Justification
- Justification can never be earned through observance of the law or good works.
- Justification is made possible in the sacrificial death of Christ; it is based on the shed blood of Jesus.
- Justification is the free and gracious gift of God bestowed on those who receive the sacrifice of Jesus Christ by faith.
What Justification Does in the Life of a Sinful Child
- Removal of the penalty for sin, which is death.
- Restoration of fellowship with God.
- Renewed hope and imputation of God’s righteous nature.
A sinful child must repent now and turn away from sin so as to benefit from the justification that Christ alone provides.
1. PROVISION FOR OUR JUSTIFICATION
Romans 5:12-21; Matthew 1:21; John 3:16-21
There is no difference between Jews and Gentiles, for all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). However, God, in His mercy, made provision for sinners to be justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came through Christ Jesus. God presented Christ as the sacrifice for atonement, through the shedding of His blood to be received by faith. God did this to show His righteousness.
Also, the sins of Adam and Eve destroyed the cordial relationship they had with God. When Adam and Eve obeyed the voice of the serpent and ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, their disobedience introduced sin into the human race. At that time, Adam and Eve experienced guilt and shame before God and a loss of inner peace for the first time.
Before eating that fruit, they had intimate fellowship with God in the garden (Genesis 3:8), but afterwards, they hid themselves from the presence of God. Instead of looking forward to their communion with God, they were now afraid of His presence (Genesis 3:10).
However, God in His mercy and love for His creatures, made a plan to restore fallen man back to Himself. This was what led to the provision for our salvation and justification. In Genesis 3:15, God promised to send the Saviour who would bruise the head of Satan. He further spoke on this promise through many of the Old Testament prophets.
2. PRACTICAL STEPS TO SALVATION AND JUSTIFICATION THROUGH CHRIST
At last, Jesus came into the world through the virgin birth. He went about doing good and laid down His life when He was crucified on the cross at Calvary. This was the conclusion of the plan and provision for our redemption. Through the blood that He shed, sinners can now receive forgiveness, cleansing and full redemption from sin and its consequences.
Have you benefitted from God’s provision for our redemption? If your answer is no, this is the time to come to Jesus. The door of salvation is still wide open though it will not be forever. Come now before it is too late.
Merely knowing that Christ came as our Justifier does not make us saved. Salvation is not automatic; there is a part for every sinner to play. To do this, the sinner must:
- Realise that he is a sinner who urgently needs the Saviour.
- Repent and confess his sins to God.
- Pray asking for forgiveness and cleansing of his heart with the blood of Jesus.
- Ask Jesus to come into his heart to be his personal Saviour and Lord.
- Believe that he is saved, rejoice and give thanks to God for his salvation.
To continue to enjoy the new life that comes through Christ’s redemptive power, you must continue to follow Him through constant fellowship and communion. Read your Bible every day, watch and pray, separate from all worldly influence and associations, be in fellowship with other Christian boys and girls, and preach the gospel of salvation to sinful boys and girls in your community.
3. PROFITS AND BENEFITS OF JUSTIFICATION
Romans 5:1-11; 8:1,2; John 1:12,13; 2 Corinthians 5:17
Romans 5 focuses on the glorious benefits of justification by faith: peace with God, access to grace, rejoicing in hope even in times of suffering, and God’s immense love demonstrated by Christ’s death for sinners, which leads to future salvation from God’s judgment.
- Peace and grace (Romans 5:1,2). a) Peace with God: Having been justified with God by faith, we have peace through Jesus Christ. This means that we have been reconciled into a loving relationship with God. b) Access to grace: We stand in God’s grace and rejoice in the hope of His glory.
- Rejoicing even in time of suffering (Romans 5:3-5). Suffering produces endurance, endurance helps us to develop sound character and character gives us hope. Hope does not disappoint because God’s love is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit.
- God’s demonstration of love (Romans 5:6-8). Christ died for us when we were still sinners. This is the height of love.
- Salvation from judgment and reconciliation with God (Romans 5:9-11). Through the blood of Jesus, we are delivered from the judgment and punishment in hell. We become children of God and friends of Jesus.
- Deliverance from the curse of Adam’s sin (Romans 5:12-21). Through Christ’s righteousness abundant life comes to all who are saved.
- Eternal life (Romans 5:17,21). We have hope of seeing God and living with Jesus forever in heaven. He now gives us power to love God with all our hearts and love people around us.
