THE SALIENT REVELATION FOR THE REVIVAL OF THE END-TIME CHURCH (JOHN)
Revelation 10:8-11
The Lord Jesus gave John the Beloved a salient message and revelation for the end time church. “And the voice which I heard from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey. And I took the little book out of the angel’s hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter. And he said unto me, Thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.” (Revelation 10:8-11). Hearing the word, reading the revelation and meditating on the content of the Book of Revelation makes the belly bitter, but the pictorial nature of the mystery of the revelation is sweet to the taste. From the description of Jesus in Revelation chapter 1, to the words of Jesus to the seven churches in chapters 2 and 3, and the throne in heaven with the angels and 24 elders – 12 representing the tribes of Israel and 12 representing the church, to chapter 5 showing the Lamb who was worthy to open the sealed book, so far, the pictures looked sweet. However, as the devastations and woes started to appear from chapter 6 to 20, in fulfilment of the words of Jesus in the gospels about the last days, it was a scary thing to swallow – bitter to the belly. In chapter 21, John saw the revelation of the new heavens and new earth, showing that God has the final say in all matters of life and eternity. John was the youngest among Christ’s disciples and was peculiarly loved by Jesus. And before Christ’s departure to heaven, He said John would tarry to see His coming, and he saw that coming in the divine revelation after all the apostles had all died, and even the boiling oil couldn’t kill him. He received the revelation at about 95 or 96 years old. He was banished to the isle of Patmos so that he would not preach again, but at that place and at that age, God gave John a revelation for the end-time church and the world at large.
- URGENT REAWAKENING FOR THE ENTIRE CHURCH Revelation 3:19,22
(i) The Preeminent Position of the Lord of the Church – Revelation 1:1-3, 7-8,12- 18; 19:11-16. “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw. Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.” (Revelation 1:1-3). We are nearer the time of the end. At the time of the revelation, the Bible had not been printed for all to read, but the preacher was to faithfully proclaim the words for the congregation to hear and obey. Jesus will certainly return the second time as He promised before He left the world after the first advent. The language of scripture, ‘amen, amen,’ is a double confirmation in Hebrew and Greek.
Christ is Preeminent – He is Alpha and Omega, and He walks above everyone and above everything. “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King Of Kings, And Lord Of Lords.” (Revelation 19:11-16). The description of Christ in these verses is similar to the prophecy that was given in the second Psalm. He is the Preeminent One.
(ii) The Penetrating Perception of the Life of the Church – Revelation 2:2, 14- 15; 3:1-2, 16-19. Christ told John to write the things that were Chapter 1), the things that are (Chapters 2 and 3), and the things which were to come (Chapters 4 to 22). Christ knows the church with a penetrating perception and knowledge. He knows the activities of the church when they are not based on the love of God. He knows the works of an entire church and the works of individual members of the church. “I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars: But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication. So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate. And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead. Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.” (Revelation 2:2, 14-15; 3:1-2, 16-19).
(iii) The Predicted Perdition for the Lost in the Church – Revelation 2:5,16,22- 23; 3:16-22. We would have thought that Christ would refer to the lost in the world at this time, but He had a message for the lost in the church. Jesus predicted the perdition for the lost and unrepentant in the church. “Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. Repent; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will fight against them with the sword of my mouth. Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds. And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.” (Revelation 2:5,16,22-23). Christ knows all that is done behind closed doors, in secret. He wants the church to know that evil would not remain in the church.
Christ, the Author and Foundation of grace, speaks very clearly about retribution and perdition of those who say they are under grace but do abominable works. “So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.” (Revelation 3:16-22). Christ, the Head of the church, will not harbour those who are not showing fervency in the things of God. We need to show love the way Christ defined love. Love rebukes and chastens evil, not tolerates it. Lukewarmness and backsliding drove Christ from the church in Laodicea, and He was knocking from outside instead of remaining inside the church.
- UNPRECEDENTED RETRIBUTION FOR THE END-TIME COSMOS (WORLD)
Revelation 9:6,20-21
The period in this section of Revelation is one of the Great Tribulation. It will be a devastating period of 7 years during the 70th week of Daniel’s prophecy. It will be a period of severe tribulation and devastation.

(i) The Severe Spreading Plagues in the Evil, Worsening World – Revelation 6:14-17; 11:13-18. “And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains; And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” (Revelation 6:14-17).
Those who reject the love and salvation of the Lamb will receive the wrath of the Lamb. The Major and Minor Prophets of the Old Testament spoke about the day of the Lord.
(ii) The Subjection under Satan’s Policies in an Exceedingly Wicked World – Revelation 12:10-12; 15:3-4. “And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night. And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.” (Revelation 12:10-12). The Wicked One will be revealed after the salt and light of the earth are taken away at the rapture. It is the presence of the bride of Christ in the world that limits the activities of wickedness. The years of horror, terror and evil will be shortened for the elect’s sake.
(iii) The Stubborn, Scorched Profligates in the End-time Willful World – Revelation 16:9-11; 20:1-3,7-10, 11-15. The world goes from bad to worse, and the judgments unleashed on men at the tribulation will not make some men repent; rather, they will be hardened in blasphemy and wickedness. “And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory. And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain, And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.” (Revelation 16:9-11). Christ will reign for a millennium as Satan will be bound for the 1000 years, and those years of incarceration do not change him, and at the end of those years, he will still succeed in deceiving men to make war with the Lamb. This is a great lesson for the church today, that bread and butter, or carrots, do not change men. “And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog, and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the number of

whom is as the sand of the sea. And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them. And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” (Revelation 20:7-10,11-15). God knows everything we say and do, and God’s grace will not cover habitual and presumptuous sins that are not repented of. At the end of time, there will be the second death – the death of death, meaning death will be no more.
- UP-TO-DATE REASSURANCE FROM THE EXALTED CHRIST Revelation 1:7-8; 16:15; 22:12,20
He is the Exalted Christ, and He spoke about His return. “Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” (Revelation 1:7-8). He is coming again! “Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.” (Revelation 16:15). We must pray that when he comes, He will meet us with the white garment of righteousness. “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be. He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.” (Revelation 22:12,20). The Lamb of God, who is the Lion of the tribe of Judah, is coming again!
(i) The Privilege that wrought Perseverance during Persecution – Revelation 1:9-11; 10:8-11. John was thrown into a pot of boiling oil and eventually banished to the isle of Patmos. He persevered despite his persecutions, and the Lord appeared to him to give him the revelation of the end-time. The word of the Lord gives us hope and keeps us in our tribulations. “And the voice which I heard
from heaven spake unto me again, and said, Go and take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel which standeth upon the sea and upon the earth. Eat up the words of the Lord, and you will still prophesy even in old age.
(ii) The Proclamation that begets Progressive Revival and Purity – Revelation 3:3; 22:7,12-14,20-21. “Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.” (Revelation 3:3). Remember how you first received the word of faith, holiness and sanctification.
(iii) The Promise that brightens Recommitment with Passion – Revelation 21:5- 7; 22:14-16. The promise He gives us brightens our recommitment and total surrender. “And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” (Revelation 21:5-7). It is those who overcome that will receive eternal rewards. It is not enough to carry the work of the Lord; we must be accepted and recognised by the Lord of the work if we are to get any rewards in eternity. Do you overcome your old and sinful habits? “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie. I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.” (Revelation 22:14-16).
