Introduction: Do You Ever Feel Worried?

Have you ever felt scared before a big exam? Or worried when Mum and Dad were having a difficult time? Maybe you were afraid of the dark, or nervous about starting a new school. Everyone feels worried sometimes, even grown-ups!

But guess what? God knew we would feel this way. And He gave us something amazing to help us — prayer. Prayer is like a special phone line to God that is always open, day or night. And when we call Him, He answers!

The Bible Story: What Does God Say About Worry?

One day, Jesus was teaching His friends. He looked at the birds flying in the sky and said something wonderful. He told them: “Look at those birds. They do not plant seeds or store food in barns, but your Heavenly Father feeds them every day. And you are worth much more than a bird!” (Matthew 6:26).

Then He pointed to the beautiful flowers in the fields. “See how lovely they are?” He said. “Even King Solomon with all his riches was not dressed as beautifully as one of these flowers. And God made them! So do you think He will forget about you?”

Jesus was teaching His friends a big truth: God sees you, God cares about you, and God will take care of you. So you do not need to carry your worries alone!

Prayer: God’s Special Gift for Worried Hearts

The Apostle Paul wrote something very important from prison. Even though he was locked up and in trouble, he was not panicking. He wrote: “Do not worry about anything. Instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank Him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which is so wonderful it is hard to understand” (Philippians 4:6-7).

Paul had learned a secret: when you pray, God’s peace comes in and the worry goes out.

How to Pray When You Are Worried: Three Easy Steps

  1. Tell God exactly what is scaring you. You can say: “God, I am scared about my exam tomorrow” or “God, I am worried about my friend who is sick.” God loves to hear your honest prayers.
  2. Ask God to help. Say: “Please help me, Lord. I know You can.” God is strong and powerful and nothing is too hard for Him!
  3. Say thank you. Even before you see the answer, say: “Thank You God for hearing me and for taking care of me.” Thanking God is like turning on a light in a dark room. It changes everything!

A Story to Remember: The Worried Boy

Once there was a boy named Kofi who was very worried. His family was going through a hard time and he could not sleep at night. One evening, his grandmother sat beside him and said: “Kofi, are you carrying that worry by yourself?” He nodded. She smiled and said: “Then you are carrying something God said you should give to Him. Give it to God. Right now. He is awake and He is waiting.”

Kofi prayed that night, for the very first time, in his own simple words. He told God everything. He said thank you. And something changed. He still did not know how the problem would be solved, but the heavy feeling in his chest was gone. God’s peace had moved in.

That is what prayer does. It does not always change the situation right away. But it always changes you.

What We Learned Today

  • God sees you and cares about you even more than He cares for the birds and flowers.
  • Prayer is talking to God honestly, asking for help, and saying thank you.
  • When we pray, God gives us a special peace that goes beyond what we can understand.
  • We never have to carry our worries alone. God is always listening.

Fun Activity: The Worry Box

Ask your teacher or parent to help you make a “Worry Box” from a small box or envelope. Write down every worry on a small piece of paper, then pray over it and put it in the box as a sign that you are giving it to God. At the end of the week, open the box and see how many of those worries God has already taken care of!

Let us say our memory verse three times together:
