Lesson 50 Jesus Speaks About His Suffering

CHILDREN LESSON 47 THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

TEXT: John 9:1-41

The key verse in our Bible passage is John 9:5 “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

This statement is the answer Jesus gave to the disciples who sought to know the reason why the man they saw was born blind. The disciples were considering the physical condition of the man while Jesus was concerned not only about the physical blindness, but the spiritual state of the man and everyone that is a sinner.

Sin blinds the mind and makes the sinner unworthy of eternal life. It is only when they (sinners) willingly surrender to Jesus, that they can receive light and be set free from all forms of darkness.

A blind man is in darkness because he cannot see anything around him, even the food he eats.

Darkness signifies evil, wickedness and all bad things. The bad things that people do are done under the cover of darkness. On the other hand, where there is light, there will be joy, peace and freedom. Jesus Christ is the Light of the world. He alone gives light, not electricity, but the light that brightens our lives and shows us the way to heaven, the city of perpetual light. Do not remain in your sins; repent and accept Jesus the Light of the world.

  1. CHRIST’S CONCERN AND CARE FOR MAN’S WELLBEING:

John 9:1-7; Luke 4:18; Isaiah 53:4,5; Matthew 4:23-25; 9:35

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to – preach the gospel to the poor; he – hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach Ho deliverance to the captives, and se recovering of sight to the blind, to da set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord” (Luke 4:18,19). This passage is pr the mission statement from our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. He went about fulfilling this great mission while here on earth. He saves, heals, sets be captives free, delivers the oppressed and gives light to the spiritually blind. In continuation of His work, Jesus met a man that was born blind. This man had never known the colour of the sun, trees and the things in his environment. He had been in darkness all his life. When he came in contact with Jesus, the Light of the world, he was delivered and translated from the kingdom of darkness to the kingdom of light.

The disciples thought the man was born blind because of his or his parents’ sins, but Jesus told them that it was for the glory of God. Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. He has the power to do all things. Whatever may be your problem, be it sin, sickness, satanic affliction, suffering or setback, Jesus is concerned and willing to heal and deliver you. All you need to do is to call upon Him in prayer. Trust His promises and surrender your life completely to Him. He will lighten your life and heal all your sicknesses.

  1. COMPLAINT BY THE RULERS AND CONFIRMATION OF THE BLIND MAN’S HEALING:

John 9:8-34; 8:33-41

Miraculous works of God are meant to bless us and show forth God’s glory. However, the religious leaders did not see it that way. Their hearts were darkened with wickedness that they turned blind eyes to the needs and problems of the people. They were more concerned about keeping the law than the welfare of their fellow human = beings. These religious leaders were not happy that Jesus healed the blind man. They had kept many of the people in darkness through the teachings and r traditions of the elders. Instead of thanking God for this miraculous deed, n they cast him out of the temple. However, their reaction to the work of Jesus, confirmed the blind man’s healing. The parents of the man confirmed that their son was born blind but now he can see. The neighbours also testified that the man who used to beg for alms because he was blind can now see.

Everyone could see clearly that the man had been healed. The man himself was very happy and testified that Jesus is the Prophet who alone has ng power to open blind eyes. As you receive to your miracle, you must praise God and also share testimony with others to life encourage their faith.

Do not give in to accusations from unbelievers, confess Jesus as your personal Saviour and Lord.
