GHS 158 : Come Believing Lyrics

GHS 158, “Come Believing,” is an evangelism hymn that addresses the habit of putting off a decision for Christ. The singer has heard the gospel message again, as they have heard it many times before, and the hymn presses the question: what are they waiting for? Wasted summers, ripened harvests that came and went, winters melted into springs, and still the sinner lingers. The hymn then carefully addresses the most common reason for delay, the feeling that one is not quite ready or does not feel enough: it is trusting, not feeling, that gives the Spirit’s seal.

This hymn appears as number 158 in the Gospel Hymns and Songs (GHS) collection, used in Deeper Life Bible Church and related assemblies across West Africa, and it is most effectively sung when the congregation includes people who have heard the gospel many times but have not yet responded.

Hymn Lyrics – GHS 158: Come Believing

  1. Once again the Gospel message, From the Saviour you have heard; Will you heed the invitation? Will you turn and seek the Lord?

Come believing! come believing! Come to Jesus! look and live! Come believing! come believing! Come to Jesus! look and live!

  1. Many summers you have wasted, Ripen’d harvests you have seen; Winter snows by Spring have melted: Yet you linger in your sin.

  2. Jesus for your choice is waiting; Tarry not: at once decide! While the Spirit now is striving, Yield, and seek the Saviour’s side.

  3. Cease of fitness to be thinking; Do not longer try to feel! It is trusting, and not feeling, That will give the Spirit’s seal.

  4. Let your will to God be given, Trust in Christ’s atoning blood; Look to Jesus now in heaven, Rest on His unchanging word.
