GHS 93 : More Love To Thee Lyrics
GHS 93, “More Love To Thee,” is a quiet but deeply felt prayer for a love for Christ that grows stronger through every trial. Written by Elizabeth Prentiss in 1856 during a period of personal grief, the hymn came out of a season in which she had lost two young children in quick succession. Rather than turning away from God in that pain, she turned toward Him, and the prayer that rose from her heart was simply this: more love. Each stanza of the hymn traces a journey from the pursuit of earthly comfort to a single-minded seeking of Christ, ending with the image of a last breath whispering His praise.
It is a hymn for anyone who has been through loss and discovered that God is the only thing left standing. This hymn appears as number 93 in the Gospel Hymns and Songs (GHS) collection, used in Deeper Life Bible Church and related assemblies across West Africa.
Hymn Lyrics – GHS 93: More Love To Thee
-
More love to Thee, O Christ, More love to Thee! Hear Thou the prayer I make On bended knee; This is my earnest plea: More love, O Christ, to Thee, More love to Thee, More love to Thee!
-
Once earthly joy I craved, Sought peace and rest; Now Thee alone I seek, Give what is best; This all my prayer shall be: More love, O Christ, to Thee, More love to Thee, More love to Thee!
-
Then shall my latest breath Whisper Thy praise; This be the parting cry My heart shall raise; This still its prayer shall be: More love, O Christ, to Thee, More love to Thee, More love to Thee!
