JESUS: THE SAVIOUR FROM SIN AND ALL ITS CONSEQUENCES
Matthew 1:21.
“And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21). This is the good news that the whole world had been waiting for, the good news that the Father Himself spoke about from the beginning of time after the fall of man, and the good news that the prophets of the Old Testament prophesied about and looked forward to.

When the time for the fulfilment of the prophecy eventually came, the angels announced the birth of Christ, who was to be a unique and universal Son. The purpose of Christ’s coming is to save everyone including the priests, prophets, parents, poor, peasants, and the prosperous from their sins. Christ saves from sin, and if anyone remains in sin, they are not yet saved. The good news is that Jesus saves, rescues, delivers and takes His people from their sins. His people are those who go to Him, repent, trust, believe and accept Him fully.
- THE SPOTLESS SAVIOUR OF ALL SINNERS
Acts 3:26; 4:12; 1 Peter 1:18-19.
“Unto you first God, having raised up his Son Jesus, sent him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities.” (Acts 3:26). “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12). No other name, of Jews or Gentiles, in the past, present, or future, can save but the name of Christ. “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:” (1 Peter 1:18-19).
(i) The Prophecy Fulfilled by Jesus as Saviour – Matthew 1:21-23;
Isaiah 7:14; Genesis 3:15; Luke 1:30-35; Genesis 3:15; Luke 1:30-35. “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” (Matthew 1:21-23). Jesus came to fulfil the prophecy of a virgin conceiving to birth the Saviour of the world. “Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14).
Just as the problem of many people is that they do not believe whatever they cannot prove scientifically, there are preachers who cannot declare the possibility of being holy, free from sin and made perfect by God because they cannot prove or analyse it scientifically. God is able to do all things and fulfil whatever prophecy He has given. Isaiah faithfully declared the prophecy of the birth of the Saviour by a virgin because He believed that God was able to do it. God Himself had foretold the birth of Christ by a virgin from the time after the Fall of man. “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” (Genesis 3:15).
While all other people in the world are referred to as the seed of man, Jesus alone was to be the Seed of the woman and He would defeat Satan for us. “And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God. And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David: And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:30-35).
As angels don’t question God in heaven when He sends them on an errand, when God sends you on an errand you must do it when God wants. Christ is holy, righteous, and spotless, and He came to fulfil prophecy.
(ii) The Purpose of Full Justification, Our Salvation – Acts 13:33, 3839; Romans 3:24-26; 5:9-11; 108:10. “God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.” (Acts 13:33, 38-39).
Jesus is not the Son of Joseph but the Son of the Almighty God, and He came to justify us thereby making us better, cleaner, and more righteous than all the people of the Old Testament. “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.” (Romans 3:24-26). He came to save His people from their sins, but then, everyone has to come, repent, and believe in Jesus Christ to be saved.
(iii) The Power of Freedom, through Jesus, from all Sins – John
8:1112, 32, 36; Romans 6:18, 22; 8:2-4; Galatians 5:1. “She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” (John 8:11-12, 32, 36). Just by speaking the word, Christ sets free from sin, sickness, and Satan. To be free indeed means to be free completely, entirely, and free for good. “Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.” (Romans 6:18). Eternal life will not come if there is no freedom from sin.
- THE SINLESS SANCTIFIER OF ALL SAINTS
Hebrews 13:12-14; 1 John 3:5.
“Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate. Let us go forth therefore unto him without the camp, bearing his reproach. For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.” (Hebrews 13:12-14). There is no limit on what sins the Saviour saves from; He saves from external, inbred, casual, common, habitual, personal, and peculiar sins.
At salvation, we are saved from external and outward sin, while at sanctification, we are saved from inbred sin and depraved nature. We can get this salvation of Christ by going to Him. “And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin.” (1 John 3:5). He has taken away my sins.
(i) The Provision of Emmanuel – Sanctifier – Matthew 1:23; Psalm 130:7-8; Titus 2:11-14; Hebrews 2:9-11. “Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” (Matthew 1:23). The conception of Christ by a virgin shows the depth, height, length, and breadth of the miracle-working power of God. Although it may seem impossible, God wants to sanctify the heart of a man because He is Emmanuel. “Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption.
And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.” (Psalms 130:7-8). “Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” (Titus 2:14). God is able to take away all the deadness in your life, purify you to become a peculiar and unique person, and make you zealous of good works. “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,” (Hebrews 2:9-11). When Christ comes into the degenerate, defiled, dirty and shameful world, He saves and sanctifies to bring many sons to glory.
(ii) The Passionate Prayer of Earnest Saints – Jeremiah 29:12-13; Psalm 119:10-11; 2 Samuel 7:25; James 1:6. “Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” (Jeremiah 29:12-13). Since God answers our prayers for healing, marriage, and other material things that will end in this world, if we ask Him for sanctification that takes us to His presence, He will answer.
(iii) The Possession of the Entirely Sanctified – Hebrews 13:12-14; 1
John 3:3; 4:17-18; 2 Corinthians 3:18. “And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.” (1 John 3:3). To purify yourself means to take yourself to the purifier and tarry there until He purifies you. “Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.” (1 John 4:17-18). When God purges and purifies us, our love does not depend on what happens around us, but it is made perfect.
When we are sanctified, we will love without fear, like Christ loved the Pharisees who persecuted Him but never fear them. When you don’t fear, you love freely, you love with all your heart, and you are not afraid of the consequences of them misinterpreting your love. When you love without fear, you will climb the highest mountain.
- THE SMITTEN SUCCOUR OF THE SICK
Hebrews 2:9, 14-15, 18; Isaiah 53:4-6.
“But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man. Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.” (Hebrews 2:9, 14-15, 18). Christ is the One that succours, supports, strengthens, and sustains us because He came to save us from sin and the consequences of sin. Satan is no longer as powerful as He was in the Old Testament because Christ has destroyed and defeated him on the Cross.
(i) Thorough Deliverance from the Consequences of Sin – Galatians 3:13-14; 1 Peter 2:24; Luke 4:18-19, 32, 36; John 5:5-9, 14. “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” (Galatians 3:13-14). Make it personal for yourself: Christ has redeemed me from the curse of the law. It will be confirmed in your life in Jesus Name.
(ii) Triumphant Dominion and Cure of All Sicknesses – Matthew 8:1617; 12:15; 14:14; Isaiah 53:4-5. “When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.” (Matthew 8:16-17).
You are healed in Jesus Name.
(iii) Total Destruction of the Crucibles of Satan – 1 John 3:8; Colossians 2:14-15; Hebrew 2:14-15; Acts 26:18. “He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” (1 John 3:8). The works of the devil in your life are destroyed in Jesus Name.
