The Expected Christ, Our Messiah , Pastor Dr. W. F. Kumuyi
John 4:25-26; 1:41-42
The word expectation means a desire to see, and a desire for something higher and greater than you are. God created the whole universe, and after creating everything for the good of man, He created humans as male and female and blessed them. Everywhere God is present, He always brings blessings. When God created man, He gave them all the good things they could ever expect. He told them to have dominion, subdue the earth, and fill the earth all the good things the Father had given them. Because of the actions of with more of His creatures that He created for fellowship. The world we live in today is not the way God created it originally because when the devil came to them, they surrendered the woman and the man, the world became lost in sin and evil. We need someone who will bring us back to the original position, creation, and blessing of God. That is why Christ came to return humanity to God’s desire, blessing, and goodness in its fulness. When Christ came as the Messiah, He revealed Himself to two people as the Messiah, a woman, and a man. “The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things. Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.” (John 4:25-26). The woman represented the pollution, defilement, and sinfulness of the whole world. The woman had an expectation of her return and restoration to God when the Messiah comes. Christ is the Messiah, Restorer, Source and Channel of blessing. You need to have an expectation that your life will become higher and greater, and that there will be the unlimited, satisfactory, and abundant blessing of God. The only way we can have, see, and believe in the Saviour is to have the revelation of Christ. First is the revelation, and then comes recognition. Once you recognise that the expected one has now come, then you have redemption. “He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ. And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.” (John 1:41-42). The world was lost through the man and the woman, and the revelation of the Messiah came to the man and the woman. As the woman represents all the women in the human race, Peter represents all the men in the human race. The same revelation comes to the man and the woman. As Peter was brought to Christ, Jesus looked at him. When Jesus looks at you, He sees your past, your present and your future; He sees what you have been, what He will make of you now, and what He will make of you in the future; He x-rays you. As you have the revelation of the Messiah today, have the recognition of Him, and know Christ as the Messiah you are expecting to come and receive Him into your life, redemption will come to you.
1. THE PROPHECY OF HIS BIRTH: Isaiah 9:6-7; Micah 5:2; Matthew 2:1-6.
Everyone comes into the world by birth but in the case of Christ, His birth was through Virgin Mary as prophesied. Christ came in fulfilment of prophecy. It was from the beginning that Adam and Eve fell and lost out of God’s creation that the prophecy of the Messiah was given. All the prophecies that went ahead of Christ’s coming created expectations in every heart. There should be an expectation in your heart as well for the reason for the birth of the Messiah. “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.” (Isaiah 9:6-7). Prophecy is history written before it happened as if it had happened. The prophets prophesied the birth of the Messiah as if it had already happened. The Messiah was born so that He will be given unto us. The Messiah is given to us as Saviour, as Redeemer, as Solution to every problem, and as the Joy of the whole earth. Christ comes as Messiah, Mediator, Saviour, and Supplier of everything you need in your life, and that brings a transformation of your life from woefulness to Wonderful. We need a counsellor who knows tomorrow, who knows where to find the blessings of God, and where to find the riches of His Kingdom. When you encounter the Messiah and give yourself to Him unreservedly, He comes in and becomes your counsellor who leads you in the path of restoration, righteousness, and redemption. The Messiah is the Mighty God who is mighty to save, to heal, to strengthen your life. The might for salvation, deliverance, healing, and the power to bring you to the mountain top of solution comes from the Messiah, by Him, and through Him unto you. As the Everlasting Father, He is the Father of eternity; He knows everything about your life, and He knows how to turn your life around for the better. As the Prince of peace, He brings His peace into our lives because when there is no peace, there is confusion and discord.
2. THE PURPOSE OF HIS BIRTH: Matthew 1:21; 1 John 3:5,8-9; 1 Timothy 1:15-16.
Many cannot tell the fullness of the purpose of Christ’s coming; God the Creator of all things determined the purpose of the birth of His Son Jesus Christ. Many people are uninterested in Christ because they do not know His purpose in their lives. If you understand the purpose of the coming of Christ, you will not say you are not interested. God never does anything without a purpose. He knows the end from the beginning, and He does everything on purpose. He created you for a purpose, He brings you to life for a purpose, and He is connecting you to the Messiah for a purpose. “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21). The purpose of the birth of Christ is to save His people—His creatures—from their sins, and when He saves them from sin, He saves them from the consequence of sin. Sin is anything different or contrary to the life of Christ. Christ loved God with all His heart, soul and mind, every moment of His life.
3. THE POWER FROM HIS BIRTH: Luke 1:35-38, 45; Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 10:38.
There were things Christ did only when He came. Christ had to come physically to manifest His power as the Mighty Saviour and as the great Healer. When you receive Christ as Messiah-Saviour, Messiah-Healer, and as Christ the conqueror. “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.” (Acts 10:38). Jesus had an immeasurable and unlimited portion of the Holy Ghost and power. The Holy Ghost was present, prominent, and preeminent in His life. He has the power to save, the power to deliver, the power to restore everyone to the original plan, purpose, and blessing of God, power to liberate from sin, power to give us authority and dominion over all the wrong things in our lives, power over sin, and power over Satan. When the Messiah comes, Satan will have to leave. When Christ comes, He comes with the power that liberates from sin, the power that subdues and conquers the power of Satan in your life, and the power that heals every sickness. Jesus went about to everyone doing the good of salvation, deliverance, forgiveness, healing, and solution in their lives. God affirms what Christ is to everyone. The revelation of who Christ is has come to you, now it is your part to have the recognition of Christ as Saviour, Liberator, Emancipator, Deliverer. When this recognition happens, He redeems you, forgives you in person, and brings the blessing of heaven upon your life, and the joy of eternity will begin in your life as you receive Him as Saviour.
