GHS 130 : Just As I Am, Without One Plea Lyrics
GHS 130, “Just As I Am, Without One Plea,” is one of the most widely used invitation hymns in the history of Christian worship. Written by Charlotte Elliott in 1835 during a period of personal illness and spiritual struggle, the hymn was born from her own wrestling with the question of how a person comes to God when they feel they have nothing to offer. The answer she arrived at, and wrote into seven stanzas, is that the sinner comes exactly as they are: without a plea, without waiting to clean up first, without anything in hand except the promise of Christ and the faith to believe it.
The hymn has been sung at more evangelistic meetings and altar calls than perhaps any other in the English language. This hymn appears as number 130 in the Gospel Hymns and Songs (GHS) collection, used in Deeper Life Bible Church and related assemblies across West Africa.
