THE TRIAL AND CRUCIFIXION OF CHRIST:
Matthew 27: 11-66; Mark 15:1-47; Luke 23:1-56
Jesus’ trial started after He was betrayed and arrested by great multitude of people. He was first taken to Caiaphas the high priest. Here, He was falsely accused and questioned by the religious leaders. He was blindfolded, mocked spat on and struck in the face. In the morning of the next day, Jesus was taken as a prisoner to the governor’s palace in Jerusalem to be judged by Pilate.
Having examined Jesus, Pilate discovered that Jesus was innocent and does not deserve to die. However, because of position and personal gain, Pilate condemned Jesus and released Him to His enemies. He was beaten, made jest of, stripped of His clothes, made to wear a crown of thorns and to carry His cross. It was a great suffering. At Golgotha, Jesus was nailed to the cross between two thieves. They pierced His sides with a sword, gave Him bitter drink and continued to mock Him. In all His sufferings, Jesus was quiet and did not fight back.
On the cross, Jesus cried out to God who has separated from Him because of the load of sins He was bearing. He spoke His final words with a loud voice saying “It is finished” (John 19:30). This cry signified the end of His sufferings and the completion of the work of redemption. The debt for our sin had been paid in full and the plan of salvation established. Only then did Jesus offer a final prayer thug, “Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost” (Luke 23:46).
As soon as Jesus died, the curtain in the temple was torn into two from top to bottom. This means that the way is now open into the presence of God for all who believe in Jesus and the sacrifice He has made for us. No sinner has excuse to remain in sin and continue to suffer in the hands of Satan. The way is clear for everyone to come to Jesus, believe in Him and accept Him as Lord and Saviour.
Do not reject Christ like the scribes, pharisees, high priest, the multitude of people that arrested Him and Pilate. One day is coming that the crucified Christ will sit to judge all those who conspired to kill Him. If you do not want to be a partaker in their suffering, you must believe the truth about Christ’s redemptive work and repent of your sins.

TIMELESS TRUTHS CONCERNING CHRIST’S DEATH:
Matthew 27:50-61; Mark 15:22-41; Luke 23:26-49; Romans 5:12-21; 1 Corinthians 5: 17-21; 1 Timothy 2:5,6.
The Bible reveals important truths concerning Christ’s suffering and death on the cross.
(i) It was a sacrificial death that is better, more powerful and permanent than the Old Testament sacrifices (1 Corinthians 5:7; Ephesians 5:2).
(ii) Jesus died as our Substitute. He suffered death as the penalty for our sin. Therefore, a sinner who repents and accepts Him will be free from eternal death (Romans 6:23).
(iii) Christ’s death satisfied God’s righteous nature, thereby, removing His judgment against the repentant sinner (2 Corinthians 5: 19; John 3: 16).
(iv) It was a sacrifice needed for the removal of our sins and its consequences (Hebrews 9:22).
(v) It is the only sacrifice that can receive and make sinners become new creatures (2 Corinthians 5: 17).
(vi) Christ death brought reconciliation between our holy god and his sinful creatures.
(vii) It was a victorious death. On the cross, Christ fought against and became triumphant over the power of sin, Satan and his demonic host that held people captive.
By the ransom of His own life, Jesus liberated us from the enemies that hold the human race in bondage (i.e., sin, death and Satan), setting us free to serve God acceptably. All these benefits are only for boys and girls who through faith accept Jesus Christ and believe that He died for them on the cross of Calvary.

TRUSTING IN CHRIST’S SACRIFICE FOR FULL SALVATION:
Matthew 27:54-61; Luke 23:38-43; John 3:14-18
The crucifixion of Christ is the central theme and foundation of God’s plan of redemption for all sinners. Jesus who is sinless and harmless died on behalf of and in place of sinful boys and girls. What then should a sinner do to benefit from what Christ has done for us? It is as simple as ABC. First, the sinner must trust God for his salvation by taking these steps.
Recognise your sinful state, knowing that you have no power to save yourself. Repent and confess all your sins to God (fighting, stealing, quarrelling, stubbornness, disobedience, cheating, lying, etc.).
Request for pardon and cleansing of your heart with the blood that Jesus shed on the cross.
Remove or do away with every object of sin.
Renew your life by asking Jesus to come into your heart to be your Saviour, Lord and Friend.
Remain with Jesus through regular attendance at fellowship, reading and meditating on God’s word and prayers.
These steps will make you to be qualified to be a Christian and a friend of Jesus. Secondly, as a believer now, you must believe and trust God for your final salvation. The reason why Christ suffered and shed His blood is to reconcile sinners to God and take them to heaven at last. Making it to heaven, our eternal destination is known as final salvation. To live for Christ and also get to heaven, the believer must be made holy through the sanctification experience. This is often referred to as the second work of grace.
Christ suffered and died, in order to sanctify and make us holy.
Therefore, you must have strong desire for the experience. Then pray and believe God to remove all the roots of sin from your heart. Living a holy and righteous life every day will qualify you to go with Jesus in the rapture. Be prepared now for your final salvation. God will keep you.
