Buy The Truth And Sell It Not, GCK India
Proverbs 23:23.
“Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.” (Proverbs 23:23). The truth being referred to here is the truth from heaven, the truth personalised in Christ, the truth that transforms us from the inside to the outward life, an empowering truth, the truth that saves, sanctifies, fills us with the Holy Spirit, the truth of regeneration, and the truth that comes from the throne of God. The truth on earth only prepares us to live an earthly life, but the truth from the throne of God changes us, transforms us, and translates us to heaven. “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price.” (Isaiah 55:1). Normally, we buy with money but even those who have no money are invited to come and buy. Earthly wine and milk have to be bought with money, but the kingdom wine and heavenly milk can be bought without money. We do not buy the truth with local currency in any country. To get the kind of currency that buys the truth, there must first be Dissatisfaction, then Desire, Decision, Dutifulness, Determination, Diligence, and Devotedness. It is a command to buy the truth because it is this kingdom truth, heavenly truth, and truth in Christ that gets us to heaven. You cannot be nonchalant about the truth; you must make up your mind to buy the truth and sell it not.
1. THE PURCHASE AND PRICELESSNESS OF THE TRUTH
Proverbs 23:23; Revelation 3:17-18.
Christ is the truth personified; He came with the heavenly truth that cannot be found in any other way. The purchase is from Christ, and the pricelessness is also from Him.
- The Peerless Person and Source of Transforming Truth – John 14:6; 1:14, 17; Matthew 22:16; Galatians 1:16-17, 23-24. Just as Joseph was the only one from whom food could be bought in Egypt during the famine, he is peerless and represents Christ, the only One from whom the heavenly truth can be bought. Christ is the only source of this eternal, heavenly, transforming truth. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6). There is no Source of saving truth or Giver of truth other than Christ, and as you believe in the Son of God who is the truth personified, you buy the truth that sets you free. “And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.” (Matthew 22:16). Jesus is the Source of transforming, saving, empowering, and translating truth that takes you from earth to heaven.
- The Personal Pursuit and Search for Timeless Truth – Proverbs 23:23; 2:2-4; Matthew 13:44-46; Philippians 3:7-9. When the world will have come to an end, this truth will continue because it is a timeless truth. When we get to heaven, this truth will continue because it is a timeless truth. Scientific, mathematical, and political truth will not be needed in heaven because all the truths we learn in the head are time limited. The truth we need now and in eternity is the timeless truth. You need to have a personal possession of this truth and pursue it. In your pursuit of this truth, there must be dissatisfaction, desire, decision, dutifulness, determination, diligence, devotion, devotedness, and dedication.
- The Priceless Possession and Satisfaction with the Total Truth – John 16:1213; 14:17, 26; Ephesians 3:3-5, 8-9; Luke 10:21. Scientific truth does not give everlasting satisfaction; we need to possess this timeless truth that will give us total and complete satisfaction. “I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.” (John 16:12-13). Christ is the Teacher of truth, God is the God of all truth, and the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of truth. When you come through Christ to the Father, the Holy Spirit also comes into you, and it is through the Holy Trinity that you have access to the eternal, saving, sanctifying, and empowering truth. The Spirit of truth guides us into all truth, total truth, complete truth, heavenly truth, saving truth, and perfecting truth. If you are going to be guided, you must accept that you need guidance, and when you admit your need for guidance, the Spirit of Truth will guide you into all truth. Earthly truth cannot tell us what will happen tomorrow; it is the Spirit of truth that reveals to us the things to come like Christ’s second coming.
2. THE POWER AND PRECIOUSNESS OF THIS TREASURE
Proverbs 23:23; Psalm 108:4.
Remember that the command from heaven and your duty from heaven is to buy the truth and sell it not.
- The Power of His Treasure of Truth – 1 Timothy 2:3-4; James 1:18; 2 Thessalonians 2:13; Romans 12:1-2. The truth is a treasure that is only revealed to the people who have the desire for this truth. “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (1 Timothy 2:3-4). The truth is Christ has the power to save all men, and God’s love is so deep and so high that it has the power to forgive all men. The truth is that the grace of God is so wide and sufficient to bring us to the salvation of the Lord. All men are not going to come to the knowledge of science and technology, but God wants all men to come to the knowledge of this timeless, transforming, and translating truth. “Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.” (James 1:18).
The truth is the one that gets us born afresh, born anew, and born from above, and we become the sons and the daughters of God. “But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:” (2 Thessalonians 2:13). Our privilege and the provision of God for us is that we can have salvation and sanctification in the Lord by the belief of the truth. When you believe the truth, you stop believing a lie. It is a lie that only some people can be saved; the truth is that there is salvation for everyone. It is a lie that you have gone too far in sinfulness, and you cannot live a new life; the truth is that whosoever is in Christ is a new creature, and there is transformation and translation available for everyone. It is a lie that not everyone can live holy and be sanctified; the truth is that He sanctifies us with the truth. Believe the truth and be saved, sanctified, healed, holy, drop all condemnation, and receive confidence from heaven.
- The Perpetuity of His Teaching and Truth – Psalm 117:1-2; 119:30,89; Matthew 24:35; 28:18-20. The perpetuity of His truth means the continuity of His truth; His truth was at that time, continues at this time, and will be until we see Him face to face. “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35). The words of Jesus Christ remain forever, and they will not pass away. Earthly truth is always changing from generation to generation, but the truth in Christ, from Christ, and by Christ shall not pass away.
- Our Perseverance in the Totality of Truth – Galatians 2:4-5; John 8:31-32; 2 Timothy 3:12-14; 4:1-5. If you have the truth in your head, it will be changing from decade to decade. But if you have Christ the truth inside you, if you have the Spirit of truth living inside you, and if you have the God of truth communicating with you every day, you will continue in the perseverance of the totality of truth. “Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:31-32). Every time you come to the Lord, you know more truth because there is truth in Christ every day and His truth makes you freer.
3. THE PERDITION AND PERVERSENESS IN SELLING THE TRUTH
Proverbs 23:23; 1 Timothy 6:5-10.
Judas had the truth personified but he sold the truth and gave Him away leaving him with a lie and emptiness. When Judas had the truth, his joy was full and he had satisfaction, but when he sold the truth he had sorrow, emptiness, and dissatisfaction in his heart that led him to hang himself.
- The Tragedy of Selling the Truth at Any Price – 1 Kings 21:20, 25; 2 Kings 17:17, 33-34; Matthew 26:24-25; Hosea 8:3, 12. “And Ahab said to Elijah, Hast thou found me, O mine enemy? And he answered, I have found thee: because thou hast sold thyself to work evil in the sight of the LORD.” (1 Kings 21:20).
Ahab as a king in Israel had the privilege of having the Pentateuch, but he sold the truth and sold himself. When you sell the truth, you sell yourself into the hands of the enemy, making you empty and having nothing in you to resist error. “But there was none like unto Ahab, which did sell himself to work wickedness in the sight of the LORD, whom Jezebel his wife stirred up.” (1 Kings 21:25). Ahab had the truth before Jezebel came into his life, and she became number one, and the truth became number two in his life. Any time anybody displaces the eternal truth in your life, you have sold the truth. When you sell the truth, you have sold yourself, you have sold your future, you have sold your destiny, you have sold your eternity ultimately to Satan with whom you will spend eternity in the lake of fire.
- The Transformation of Sellers of Truth After True Penitence – Matthew 26:6975; John 21:15-17; Acts 4:18-20; 5:28-31. God always makes a way to come back to the truth. If you sell the truth, but after that, you have regret for selling the truth, remorse for selling the truth, recollection of the power of the truth, and you repent of selling the truth, you will be brought back to the truth. “And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.” (Matthew 26:75). Peter regrated selling the truth, and had remorse for selling the truth, recollected the consequence of selling the truth, and he repented for selling the truth, wept bitterly, and the Lord received him and still made use of him.
- The Translation for Steadfastness in Truth in His Presence – Hebrews 11:56; 2 Kings 2:11; 1 Thessalonians 4:14-18; 1 Corinthians 15:51-52, 57-58. You have heard of the truth and that Jesus is that truth by whom you are saved, sanctified, made steadfast, Spirit-filled, and Spirit-empowered. You have heard that His way is the way of truth, His word is the word of truth, and His grace is grace and truth, and you have decided to go with Him to the end. You must walk with Him, agree with him, receive His truth, receive Him as the truth, and walk with Him till the end of your life. Christ will soon come, and the people who believe the truth, live by the truth, are submissive to the truth, are committed to the truth, and protect the truth are the people who will go with Christ when He comes. “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” (1 Corinthians 15:51-52). When the trumpet sounds at the rapture, we shall be changed because we stand in the truth, we are saved in the truth, we are sanctified by the Truth, we are steadfast in the truth, and we continue in the truth till the very end. Because you are dissatisfied without the truth, you desire the truth, decide for the truth, dutiful for the truth, determined for the truth, diligent for the truth, and because you are devoted to the truth, when the Lord comes you will go with Him.
